Senior Sports Medicine Students Reflect on IVVC Experience and Future Plans
It’s that time of year! Seniors are on the brink of their next big steps, and we wish them well! Senior students in Sports Medicine weigh in on their time here and their next stop:
“Sports Medicine helped me to realize what field I wanted to go into. I couldn’t decide between athletic training or physical therapy but after shadowing both, I made a decision based on what I learned. My favorite part was definitely going and interning with the different trainers and watching the games from a new point of view.”
Beatrice F. - Sandwich SM II Senior; will attend Waubonsee Community College
“I have loved every single second of Sports Medicine. It is the one and only class I have been excited to go to throughout my high school career. I have learned so much from how the body works to different sports medicine careers. It has assured me that this is the career path that I want to follow.”
Paige P. - Somonauk SM I Senior; will attend University of South Florida
“Sports Medicine 1 and 2 have helped me make my decisions for after high school because it opened up all of my opportunities that I can have. My favorite part about Sports Medicine was getting a better understanding about the anatomy and a better understanding of the different career paths of Kinesiology and Exercise Science.”
Jillian A. - Sandwich SM II Senior; will attend Aurora University
“I loved my time in SM l and ll, I learned a lot and it helped lead me to my decisions after high school. My favorite part was the field trips and meeting people from different schools. I also loved interning and developing a bond with the trainers that I worked with and the information I learned from them.”
Gianna M. - Sandwich SM II Senior; will attend Waubonsee Community College
“Sports Medicine really helped me decide what I wanted to do after high school. It made me realize that the track for me is Physical Therapy. My favorite part was all the times I got to intern with the Kishwaukee CC Athletic Trainer. I liked being able to get one-on-one time with a trainer and learn new things. I also loved the connections I got to make with the athletes.”
Alana M. - Indian Creek SM II Senior; will attend Judson University
“I'm really glad I took Sports Med, both 1 and 2, because I met a lot of friends and I think it helped me mature a lot from who I was a couple years ago. I am thankful for what I've learned and hope to be able to use some of my skills one day as a basketball coach.”
Dalton H. - Leland SM II Senior; will enter an electrician apprenticeship
“Taking this class at IVVC has helped me narrow down to what I want to do after school: Sports Medicine has gone from job shadowing to interning and doing projects on different careers. My favorite part was getting to intern and see all different types of injuries.“
Aleksa M. - Plano SM II Senior; will attend Waubonsee Community College
“I thoroughly enjoyed both years of this class. I came into this class thinking I wanted to do athletic training. I was able to learn about a lot of different careers. Although I didn't learn about the career I want to pursue in this class, it was definitely helpful in coming to my conclusion. This led me to exploring other options outside of sports medicine until I found one that I think I can enjoy long term as it combines two things I like: sports and math. My favorite part of this class was being able to make my own schedule throughout the second year. Throughout all of school I have had my schedule made for me, and being able to somewhat make some decisions this year was nice. It also forced me to be responsible and manage my time well; it was a win-win.”
Jensen K. - Yorkville SM II Senior; will attend Purdue University
“Sports medicine is a great class because it helped me make decisions by learning the different types of jobs in the medical field and what they do. My favorite part of the class is that we are allowed to work at our own pace, and I learned different skills such as taping and first aid.”
Alex V. - Leland SM I Senior; will attend Aurora University
"Sports Medicine has helped me so much. I knew from day one I wanted to be in the medical field, but no clue what job. This class has helped me figure out exactly what I want to do moving forward after showing me the many different jobs under the sports medicine umbrella. I want to continue in school to study exercise science and later become an athletic trainer! I loved my second year especially because it was a lot more self-paced, and the field trips we went on were so fun. Also the people in the class made it fun too.
Kat K. - Yorkville SM II Senior; will attend Illinois State University
“It helped me make decisions after high school because it helped me find out I probably wouldn’t do very well in college anatomy classes with cadavers. It also helped me find what I’m going to major in being able to go to Haskin Tuesday and Thursdays. My favorite part was for sure building relationships with people from other schools and being able to meet new people during my internships.”
Carson B. - Somonauk SM II Senior; will attend Kishwaukee Community College
