Emergency Medical Services
Instructor: Ashton King
Hello! My name is Ashton King, and I began teaching the EMS program at IVVC in 2022. I graduated from IVVC in 2005 with my Firefighter II Certification, and EMT-B license. From there I went out to Waubonsee Community College and took a year of general education before going to Paramedic School at Edwards Hospital. I started my Fire/EMS career as a Cadet for the Bristol Kendall Fire Department when I was 16 years old. Once completing Paramedic school I began working full-time as a Firefighter/Paramedic for the Bristol Kendall Fire Department. During that time, I also mentored and precepted paramedic students.
I have worked in the Emergency Room as a Paramedic. For the last 5 plus years, I have been an EMS Educator for Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital. During this time I was responsible for the Continuing Education requirements for the NREMT and IDPH renewals for all of Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee EMS System Providers. I hold an IDPH Paramedic License, IDPH Lead Instructor License, certified ACLS Instructor and Provider, certified PALS Instructor and Provider, BLS certified, Advanced Burn Life Support certified, IS 100,200, and 700.
During my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, 3 boys, and 4 dogs. I am excited to start my teaching career at IVVC and look forward to passing on my education and years of experience to the new generation of EMS providers. IVVC played such an important role in my life, setting me up for my career in the Fire/EMS world, and I hope to continue this for other students who choose to go down this career path.
