Spring is in the air and the Auto Body Repair class is working hard. From customer cars to in-house projects, we have been busy. We just finished a VW beetle. We had to replace the driver’s side fender, and repair a dent in the door and fender extension. The repair went smoothly and the new fender fit just right.
We are currently working on a truck bed for Zach B. in the Auto Body class. We are patching in new wheel well pieces and working with our Welding & Fabrication class to fabricate the inner wheel well. The main body work is almost complete and the welding students almost have the fabrication done.
Mr. Barbic’s golf cart is getting a makeover. He is letting us have free reign on the paint scheme for this cart. We have put a silver metal flake down, and boy does this thing bling in the sun! Next up we have taped out traditional hot rod flames getting ready to paint those a nice hot color.
We are also working on the classroom hoods for Auto Tech as well as our own hood. We will have all the students sign their respective class hood so it can be hung up around the shop for this year’s classes.
"It is amazing to have our class be part of this endeavor..."
In the previous article we spoke about working on panels for the Chicago Brushmasters to use for a charity auction. The World of Wheels was on March 8-10, and the Auto Body students painted roughly 100 backgrounds on which artists used to create automotive art. Pinstripers from all over worked on these panels and the artwork was auctioned off - with 100% of the money raised going to the Chicago area Ronald McDonald House Charities. The total money raised over the weekend was $90,018.00. With the nightly cost of $85 to have a family stay in the Ronald McDonald House, this fundraiser provides almost 1100 nights for families in need. It is amazing to have our class be part of this endeavor and to be able to help families stay together in a time of great stress.
