Trip to Western IL Univ. Immerses Students in Law Enforcement Experiences
Law Enforcement 2nd year students got an amazing opportunity to attend Western Illinois University’s Public Safety Day. It was an early wake-up call of 5am but it was definitely worth it.
After a crazy and fun three-hour drive, we got to attend five different presentations. Each section focused on something different. We got to experience fingerprinting by practicing taking and lifting prints. Blood Spatter analysis, where we practiced analyzing blood patterns and determining its source. Polygraph, where students got to take the test themselves and learn how it works. Crime Scene Investigation, students got to explore a fake crime scene and learn how to solve the case. Lastly, Police-K9, a demonstration of police dogs and how they search and chase.
Possibly the best part was that every class was taught by a Western IL professor who are also retired law enforcement officers. Throughout the whole experience students got to learn all about Western’s Law Enforcement Justice Administration degree and even got to speak with current students at Western!
It was a long day and drive, but we got to learn so much valuable information and had a great time while doing it!
