Another Exciting Year in Auto Tech!
The year started with the gathering of many new students from many different schools, which has led to new friendships. We started the year slowly but have really gotten up to speed as the year has moved along - almost Christmas!
We started with the basics, from safety, to learning how to identify different vehicles, then moved along to proper maintenance procedures, identifying fasteners, tires (and the meaning of the info on them), and how to repair and balance a tire properly. We then moved on to suspension systems, including being able to completely disassemble a 2005 Chevy truck down to the frame, and removed all the steering and suspension components. We cleaned parts and reassembled the frame with the intention of being able to perform an alignment, allowing us to see all the components in real time as the alignment is performed. We have now started brake systems, starting with flaring of brake lines, disc brake work, and resurfacing brake rotors.
The more advanced students have been working on a single-parent vehicle. This includes completely removing the engine and transmission to allow transmission replacement. This was a donated vehicle which we hope will be a great asset to a person in need.
Many more unmentioned projects have been performed, and we look forward to a great second semester with more opportunities, and of course challenges. Can’t wait!!
