CNA's New Essential Skill
Certified Nursing Assistant students at Indian Valley Vocational Center are taking big steps in their clinical training by learning to use a manual hoyer lift. This essential skill will prepare them to safely transfer patients who have limited mobility, ensuring both patient care and caregiver safety.
During their recent training session, students worked in pairs, practicing how to properly position the lift, secure the sling, and smoothly transfer a classmate acting as a patient. Emphasis was placed on proper body mechanics, patient communication and safety protocols. These are key components in preventing injuries for both patients and caregivers.
Learning to use the manual hoyer lift is just one part of their hands-on experience at Indian Valley Vocational Center before entering the workforce or pursuing further medical training. By mastering these fundamental skills now, they are better prepared for the challenges of patient care in the real-world setting.
