Everyone is a Team in Our Class
Culinary Arts has been an interesting class because of all the different aspects of the curriculum. Our first buffet went smoothly and brought in profit. In Culinary I have learned so many things - like time management when we made the buffet. It was super fun to make food for so many people. I learned how to work under pressure when we did the MRE (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) competition with the recruiter. I also learned this when we did our math wrong and were 100 cookies short for the buffet, and had to make them in less than an hour!
We are working on another project which is just as fun. We are making an interesting ice cream flavor to be judged (see note below).
During December we are going to do a gingerbread house contest. It’s fun to work with friends and make cool foods to try. One of my favorite projects was making sugar cookies with royal icing, which was time consuming, but looked so good at the end.
I've learned leadership roles when I had to step up, such as during the MRE competition to come up with all the ideas and instructions. Culinary Arts has taught me to work with people I don’t normally get along with because everyone is a team in our class. My favorite part of Culinary is all the friendships I’ve made in this class because I am with them 2.5 hours a day for five days a week.
Note: The authors made Oatmeal Cream Pie ice cream and Blueberry Waffle ice cream.
